Catral enjoys a privileged position in the province of Alicante and the county of Vega Baja del Segura. It is roughly equidistant from the provincial capitals of Alicante and Murcia (45 km) and the coasts of Guardamar de Segura and Torrevieja are less than half an hour away (20 and 25 km respectively). The county capital, Orihuela, is just 16 km away and the industrial centres of Elche and Crevillente are 20 and 10 km respectively.

The municipality of Catral covers 19 km2 of completely flat land, bordered to the north by the nature reserve of "El Hondo". The land is mainly given over to market gardening, having been cultivated for centuries, and on average lies at 12 metres above sea level.

Road connections are outstanding: via the A-37 highway and the A-7 motorway you can reach Murcia or Alicante in 25 minutes and Torrevieja in 15 minutes. There is also the county road towards Callosa de Segura and Orihuela, or Dolores-Almoradi and the rest of the county. There is a railway station 3 km away in San Isidro (the Alicante-Murcia line). El Altet airport is around 20 minutes away by highway.

The climate is very pleasant, with an average of 10 ºC in January and 26 ºC in July.
